Thuppakki producer agrees to remove offensive scenes

Following protests from a federation of 24 Muslim organisations demanding the removal of some controversial scenes from Murugadoss-directed Vijay starrer Thuppakki, the makers bowed to the pressure and agreed to edit those portions. Announcing their intention at an urgently convened press conference, producer Thaanu said, “We did not want to hurt anyone’s sentiment. We regret if it had offended the Muslim community. We also consent to remove some of the controversial scenes which were objected to by few Muslim organizations. This will be done in one or two days’ time from all the prints of Thuppakki”. Peeved at the unpleasant developments, filmmaker Murugadoss openly apologized in front of a large media gathering. Thuppakki has reportedly opened to extraordinary success at the box offices in Tamil Nadu and Kerala and is predicted to be the biggest hit of ‘Ilayathalapathy’ Vijay. Speaking at the emotionally charged meeting, Vijay’s father SA Chandrashekar said, “Vijay would never act in a film which would offend anyone’s feelings. I promise that Vijay will act as a Muslim character in one of his future films”. The Muslim organisations also resolved to give up their agitation as the issue was sorted out amicably. Sources said that earlier Vijay, SAC, Thaanu and Murugadoss had met the home secretary and sought his help but there was no mention of the event at the press conference.
